Eneas Alternative Investments is a young and entrepreneurial team with more than 75 years of cumulative experience in sourcing unique opportunities, managing businesses and real estate assets, and creating value.
The partners in private equity and real estate teams have been present in the local market for over 20 years and they have developed relationships that allows Eneas to have access to proprietary opportunities all across Spain. In addition, each partner has well established relationships across different industries providing Eneas support and insights in the sourcing and evaluation of the investment opportunities and their teams.
Both private equity and real estate teams are a complementary mix of people who follow international operational and governance standards when analyzing opportunities, digging for and understanding details, taking decisions objectively as a team and driving the opportunity to deliver long term high return commitments.
JUAN CARLOS SMITH
Juan Carlos is a Co-founder of Eneas Alternative Investments and is involved in investment relations along with the strategic, management and investment processes.
Juan Carlos is also the founder of Eneas Advisory, a specialized financial advisory boutique founded in 2003. He has more than 15 years of experience in corporate finance and advising companies of various industrial sectors. He also has experience in debt restructuring and cost optimization.
Juan Carlos has also managed several investments in real estate distress assets.
Previously he worked in PwC where he started as an auditor and later became director of the M&A department.
Juan Carlos holds a Master degree in European Financials at IEAF and a degree in Economics at EBSI. He speaks Spanish and English.
Head of Investor Relations
Arantxa Prado has over 12 years of investment, deal origination and marketing experience. Prior to joining Eneas Alternative Investments, she worked at Sabertia Capital Partners, a fundraising boutique focused on alternative investments where she joined from successfully founding Lanzada Capital, an intermediary business focused on alternative investments.
Previously, she was one of the two founders of Cassia Investments, a consumer sector fund focused in Emerging Asia which she co-founded in 2012 after leaving Pantheon. At Cassia, she specialised in opportunities in the consumer sector across emerging targeting SMEs of up to $200MM in enterprise value that exhibit strong growth potential. She was mainly responsible for sourcing, execution and fundraising. In 2012, she closed the Firm’s first investment, Bangkok Ranch, a Thailand business in the food sector and one of the largest duck producers in the world.
She originally joined the Pantheon’s London office in 2006 and moved to HK in 2010 to be responsible of the Asian secondary platform of the Firm, focusing on the analysis, evaluation and completion of secondary transactions. She worked on portfolio transactions across Asia with value from US$5MM up to $1B across a large number of sectors.
Since joining Pantheon she was also responsible of the firm’s investment activities in Latam as well as providing marketing support. During her time in London, she was also involved in the investments activities of the European primary and co-investment funds as well as supporting the marketing and client reporting services platforms. She joined Pantheon from Standard Life Private Equity where she was involved on all aspects of the European investment activity with particular focus on the analysis and execution of co-investment opportunities. Arantxa also worked for over two years as a consultant for OFCOM and the UK Department of Trade and Industry.
Arantxa received a PhD in Telecommunications and a First Class Honour in MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bristol University. She is a Spanish citizen and is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish. She currently lives in Madrid.
Founding Partner, Boston
Ed is a Co-founder of Eneas Alternative Investments and heads the Boston Office. He is involved in investment relations with responsibility for Americas and with direct involvement with the strategic, management and investment processes.
Ed has a combined experience of more than 30 years in Corporate and Investment Banking, Brokerage and Asset Management, having started his career at Citicorp Investment Bank in São Paulo, Brazil, and subsequently worked for ING Bank in São Paulo and the UK, Banco S.R.L. (later American Express Bank S.A.) in São Paulo, and Santander in São Paulo, Brazil, Hong Kong and the USA. Throughout his career he has conducted business with financial, institutional and corporate clients.
Among his most relevant achievements are the management of the Brazilian operations of Santander Asset Management and the Corporate Banking operations of Banco Santander in the USA, both cases of significant improvement of operational and financial results.
Ed underwent postgrad studies at University of São Paulo, Harvard, IESE and INSEAD and holds a LLM at Catholic University of São Paulo. He speaks Spanish, Portuguese and English and is fluent in French.
COO/ Chief Operating Officer
Leandro Bren Vianna is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Eneas Alternative Investment and is based in EAI’s Madrid Office. He has more than 18 year’s professional experience in the financial industry.
Leandro started his career in 1997 at Sul América Group in São Paulo, Brazil, first at Sul América Insurance and after, between 1998 and 2001, at Sul America Bank as a Product Manager.
From 2001 to 2010 held several positions at Santander Asset Management Brazil, mainly in Product, Marketing and Sales Departments, with broad experience in product development, financial planning, P&L management, market intelligence and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) strategies.
Between 2010 and 2016, as Global Product Director at Santander Asset Management, Leandro was based in Madrid (2010-2014) & London (2014-2016) and he was responsible for the coordination of local teams in 10 countries, oversee the product development process, analyze the different markets and the main competitors and manage the product portfolio of more than 1.200 funds, which together sum € 180 billion under management. Additionally, as part of Leandro´s responsibilities, he was Board Member and Conducting Person of Santander Asset Management Luxembourg, an international platform of products focused on the distribution of funds to the Institutional and Private Banking segments.
Leandro holds a degree in business administration from Universidade Mackenzie in São Paulo and specialization courses at Stanford University and Kellogg School of Management. He speaks Spanish, Portuguese and English.
CEO/ General Partner Eneas Real Estate
Emilio is The General Partner heading the Real Estate Fund.
He brings more than 20 years of local real estate experience where he spent most of his professional career analysing, investing, structuring and executing real estate opportunities in Spain.
He joined from KPMG, where he was the partner leading the real estate practice. He has extensive experience in the analysis, structuring and capital raising for real estate investment opportunities, advising local and international clients in distressed situations, acting both on the buy side and the sell side.
Emilio has also worked at CBRE, BNP Paribas RE and BBVA.
He is a registered valuer member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
He holds a Capital Markets and Structure Finance Specialist title from IEB and a Management Development Program from IESE Business School – University of Navarra. He earned a Bachelor´s degree in Business Administration from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He speaks Spanish and English.
SENIOR ADVISOR TO ENEAS PRIVATE EQUITY
Javier Casanueva is the Senior Advisor to Eneas Private Equity.
Javier has more than 25 years of experience in investing, managing and advising a wide variety of companies in developed and emerging markets.
Prior to Eneas Alternative Investments, as a Barings partner, Javier has led numerous investments in high growth Spanish SMEs and has held relevant Board positions. As an investment banker, he has been involved in some of the most relevant IPO and M&A transactions in Latam and Spain. He is currently non-executive chairman of Mirada Plc, an AIM quoted leading provider of software solutions for digital TV operators.
Javier was based in Madrid (1999-2014) as a partner in Baring Private Equity Partners España, a private equity firm specialised in buy-out/growth capital for mid-market companies. In the following 14 years, Barings raised three funds with an aggregate size of €300m, all of them specialised in the Spanish SME sector.
Javier started his career in 1989 as an investment banker at Baring Brothers (Madrid). In 1994, he moved to New York as a VP in Baring Securities Latam Corporate Finance team specialising in IPO/M&A transactions. He was subsequently appointed Managing Director of ING Barings M&A Latam team.
Javier holds a degree in law and a degree in business economies from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) in Madrid. Javier speaks Spanish, English and French.
Jaime is a Co-founder of Eneas Alternative Investments and is involved in investment relations along with the strategic, management and investment processes.
He has over 15 years of experience in company management along with investment management in very different sectors. Prior to Eneas Alternative Investments, Jaime led the development of his Family Office, based in Madrid, having participated in more than 20 deals with more than €100M in value in a variety of sectors. Previously he worked for 5 years at Pepsico as a Marketing Manager managing the Gatorade brand among other responsibilities.
Jaime is a Board Member of several mid caps in the Family Office portfolio.
Jaime holds a MBA from the IE Business School and a Bachelors degree in Managerial Economics from Bentley University. He speaks Spanish and English and is fluent in French.
